AI Dashboard Cards
Three dashboard cards draw on AI or your weather data to surface timely, personalised insights. Here's how each one works, what data it uses, and when to regenerate.
Companion suggestions
AI pairings based on what you're growing now.
What to plant now
AI crop nudges for your season and available space.
Pest & disease watch
Weather-driven risk flags — no AI, fully deterministic.
Companion suggestions
Generates 2–3 companion planting pairings based on what you currently have growing at the active property. Each suggestion names the pairing and gives a one-sentence practical reason.
How it works
1
Your active plantings
The names of all active plantings at your current property are collected.
2
Plant profile notes
Companion notes from each plant's profile are included to inform the AI.
3
AI generates pairings
2–3 specific pairings with a practical reason for each are streamed to the card.
4
Cached 24 hours
The result is cached per property. Page reloads show the cached version instantly.

Companion suggestions Regenerate

After loading
Companion suggestions Regenerate
🌿 Tomato + Basil
Basil repels aphids and improves tomato flavour.
🌿 Silverbeet + Nasturtium
Nasturtiums act as a sacrificial trap crop for aphids.
Click Regenerate after adding or removing plantings to get updated suggestions. This resets the 24-hour cache for your property.
What to plant now
Suggests 2–3 specific crops suited to your current season and available bed space. Each suggestion includes a reason and a practical tip.
How it works
1
Season + location
Current season (derived from hemisphere + month) and your property's location name.
2
What you're growing
Active plant names, so the AI avoids suggesting duplicates or poor combinations.
3
Available space
Empty bed count and current temperature (if weather is available) give the AI context.
4
Cached 24 hours
Same cache behaviour as Companion suggestions — per property, 24h TTL.

Pest & disease watch
Surfaces weather-based risk flags for common pests and diseases. This card is not AI-generated — it uses deterministic rules applied to live weather data.
How risk is assessed
1
Weather data
Temperature, recent rainfall, and forecast lows from your property.
2
Rule matching
Conditions are checked against a fixed set of pest and disease rules.
3
Result
Matched risks shown as coloured cards. No match → green "Low risk" indicator.
Risk rules reference
Conditions Risk flagged Severity
Temperature ≥ 32°C and low recent rain Heat stress, spider mites, aphids High
Recent rain > 15mm, temperature 8–22°C Slugs, grey mould (Botrytis) Medium
Forecast minimum ≤ 2°C Frost — protect tender crops High
Temperature 18–28°C and recent rain > 5mm Fungal pressure (powdery / downy mildew) Medium
None of the above conditions met Low risk Low
Card output — high temperature example
🌡 Heat stress High risk
32°C+ with low rainfall. Check soil moisture and mulch exposed beds.
🐛 Spider mites High risk
Hot, dry conditions favour rapid mite populations on stressed plants.
Card output — low risk example
Low risk
Current conditions don't match any common pest or disease triggers.
This card uses weather conditions to flag likely risks — it does not observe your garden directly. If you spot a pest or disease, log it as a planting event or quick log entry. The card is a proactive early-warning signal, not a real-time detector.
What data is sent to the AI
The following information is sent to the AI for Companion suggestions and What to plant now. No other data is included.

Sent to AI

  • Active plant names (e.g. "Tomato, Basil")
  • Property location name (e.g. "Cathcart")
  • Current season
  • Empty bed count
  • Current temperature (if weather available)
  • Companion notes from plant profiles

Never sent to AI

  • Your name or email address
  • Full street address or GPS coordinates
  • Household member details
  • Photos or images
  • Harvest weights or financial data
Cache behaviour
Both AI cards cache their output for 24 hours per property.
On page load
Cache is fresh (under 24h) → result shown instantly
No cache or cache expired → new AI response streams in and is saved
After clicking Regenerate
Cache cleared for that property
New AI response generated immediately
24h window resets from now
If you switch between properties using the property switcher, each property has its own independent cache. Adding plantings to a property doesn't automatically refresh the cache — click Regenerate when you want updated suggestions.
